LESSON 3 OF 5
Write a useful status update
Publish a short project or initiative update that explains the next step.
Overview
A useful status update explains what changed and what happens next. It gives readers the progress, dependency, and next action without requiring them to read every issue.
For example: “Colors are approved. Materials arrive Thursday. Alex will confirm crew access before work starts.” Keep detailed task instructions on their issues and use the update to explain what those changes mean for the plan.
Before you start
Choose an active project or initiative and identify the progress, dependency, or next action you want to communicate.
1Open Updates
Open the project’s Updates section and choose Post update. Use an initiative update when the change concerns a broader goal.
2Explain the current situation
Select the health that matches what you know. Write a short update covering the change and what happens next.
3Select any needed mention
Type @ and select a workspace member from the suggestions when you want to bring them into the update. Typing a name alone does not select a mention.
4Post and check the result
Post the update, then review the saved text and author. Mention notifications depend on the recipient’s enabled categories; corrective edits do not send another mention notice.
Put it into practice
The project or initiative has a concise update that explains the plan and the next action in context.
