Plan and deliver your work

LESSON 5 OF 5

Understand cycles

Understand what a cycle contains and how to review its progress.

Overview

A cycle groups a team’s issues into a defined period of work. Its start and end dates describe the period you are planning.

An issue can belong to a project and a cycle at the same time. The project explains which job it serves; the cycle explains when you have chosen to work on it.

Before you start

Open a team cycle with explicit dates and a few assigned issues.

1Open the team’s cycle

Go to the team’s Cycles and choose a period. Current and Upcoming help you move between periods in the team’s navigation.

2Review dates and progress

Check the start and end dates, then review issues grouped by status to understand what remains open.

3Inspect a connected issue

Open an issue and check its project and cycle links. The same task supplies the progress in both views.

4Change the breakdown

Review the cycle by assignee, label, priority, or project to understand where the recorded work is concentrated. Review unfinished tasks before using Close cycle.

Put it into practice

You can review a period of work while keeping every issue connected to its job and owner.
