LESSON 3 OF 6
Plan project work into a cycle
Choose a realistic period of work while preserving project context.
Overview
A project describes the full job, while a cycle contains the work you have chosen for a particular period. Use both to preserve the purpose of a task while deciding when the team will do it.
Cycle breakdowns show the recorded work by assignee or project. Use that information to review the plan against what the team can actually do.
Before you start
Choose open project issues and a cycle belonging to the same team as those issues.
1Review the project’s next tasks
Open the project and check the issues, owners, and dependencies. Choose the work that belongs in the next period.
2Check the cycle and dates
Create or open the team’s cycle and confirm its start and end dates.
3Assign the chosen issues
Select that cycle in each chosen issue’s properties. Keep the project link so the task’s purpose remains clear. The issue’s cycle must match its team.
4Review the combined plan
Open the cycle and compare the Assignees and Projects breakdowns. Adjust the plan where needed. Issue status changes appear in the cycle and project views.
Put it into practice
The selected work is planned into a team period, with its project context and ownership preserved.
