LESSON 4 OF 7
Create and update an issue
Create a task with a clear outcome, owner, and place in the plan.
Overview
An issue is a specific piece of work with a clear outcome. “Confirm paint colors,” for example, can describe the approval needed before the team orders materials.
Use the description for the current instructions and comments for decisions or discussion. Project and cycle links organize the same issue in different views, so you do not need to create another copy of the task.
Before you start
Choose the team responsible for the work and, if the task belongs to a job, have its project ready.
1Start a new issue
Open Issues and choose New issue. Enter a short title that describes the result you need.
2Explain the outcome
Write a description with enough detail to act. For a color approval, specify which wall and trim colors the client needs to confirm.
3Set the issue properties
Choose the team, a status that matches its progress, an assignee, a useful priority, and the project. Add a due date when there is an actual deadline, then create the issue.
4Keep the saved issue current
Open the issue and check its identifier and properties. Add a comment when a decision is made, then move it to the appropriate status when the work changes.
Put it into practice
The task is saved with a clear outcome and owner, and its status reflects the work rather than just the original plan.
