LESSON 4 OF 6

Close a cycle and carry work forward

Close a period without losing unfinished issues or misrepresenting completion.

Overview

At the end of a cycle, review what was completed and what still needs work. Update any issue whose recorded status no longer matches reality before closing the period.

Closing a cycle does not finish its open tasks or complete their projects. You decide whether unfinished issues stay in that cycle or move into another open cycle in the same team.

Before you start

Review the current cycle and, if moving unfinished work, choose another open cycle in the same team. A completed cycle cannot be reopened.

1Review finished and unfinished work

Check each issue’s status. Completed and canceled issues are separate from the unfinished work considered for moving.

2Open Close cycle

Open More cycle actions and choose Close cycle.

3Choose the unfinished-work destination

Select Leave unfinished work in the closed cycle or choose another open cycle in the same team. Review the choice carefully before confirming.

4Confirm and inspect both views

Confirm the close, then check the completed cycle and destination cycle. Moved issues retain their task status and project links.

Put it into practice

The cycle is complete, and unfinished work remains visible in the location you chose. There is no automatic carryover when the end date arrives.
