LESSON 6 OF 6
Hand work to a teammate with context
Make a handoff understandable through assignment, context, and a selected mention.
Overview
A useful handoff gives the next person responsibility and enough context to act. Keep current instructions in the issue description and the discussion beside the work.
For an access check, the description might identify who to contact and what confirmation is needed. A comment can explain a changed access time and why it matters before booking the crew.
Before you start
Choose an issue and the teammate taking responsibility. Assignment and discussion notifications depend on their enabled in-app categories.
1Assign the issue
Open the task and set the teammate as its assignee.
2Update the instructions
Revise the description with the current next action, relevant people, and the confirmation needed.
3Explain the decision
Add a comment explaining the recent change or decision. Type @ and select the teammate from suggestions before posting if you need to mention them.
4Check the receiving context
The teammate can open the relevant notification to review the issue, description, and discussion. The assigned issue also gives them a way back through Focus.
Put it into practice
The next person has both ownership and the context to continue, and another teammate can understand the handoff later from the issue itself.
