LESSON 2 OF 5

Set a meaningful milestone

Group project issues under a meaningful checkpoint.

Overview

A milestone is a checkpoint inside a project. “Ready to paint” could mean that the colors are approved, materials are available, and the room is prepared.

Issues keep their own owners and statuses. The milestone gives you a way to review a meaningful outcome across those tasks.

Before you start

Choose a project and the issues that contribute to one of its delivery checkpoints.

1Name the checkpoint

Add a milestone to the project with a name that describes the intended outcome, then give it a target date.

2Link the relevant issues

Open each issue that contributes to the checkpoint and select this project milestone.

3Review the milestone together

Return to the project’s milestone section. Compare the intended outcome with the progress recorded on its issues.

4Record completion deliberately

Mark the milestone complete when its outcome has actually been reached. Keep issue completion and milestone completion as separate decisions.

Put it into practice

The milestone records a checked delivery outcome. The project’s remaining work can continue toward its next checkpoint.
